That architecture is inherently risky. But there is a better way. The "gold standard" for enterprise-grade AI isn't a direct line between the customer and the LLM. It’s an Orchestration Architecture where your software stays in control, and the AI is simply a high-powered engine under the hood. **The Architecture of Trust: Software-First, AI-Second** The "Wrong Way" is a straight line: - **Customer <—> AI.** The "Right Way" is a sandwich: - **Customer <—> Your Software <—> AI.** In this model, your customer never actually "talks" to the AI. They talk to your application. Your application then has a private, multi-turn conversation with the AI to figure out the best move. Only after your software validates the AI’s logic against business rules, compliance filters, and real-time data does it send a response back to the user. **Why This Solves the "Enterprise Fear"** **1. Probabilistic vs. Deterministic Control** AI is probabilistic (it guesses the next best word). Your business rules must be deterministic (if X happens, Y must follow). By putting a middleware layer in between, you use hard code to verify fluid AI output. If the AI suggests a refund, the middleware checks the database to see if that customer is actually eligible. If they aren't, the software catches the error before the customer ever sees it. **2. The "Internal Critique" Loop** In a middleware setup, your software can run "Multi-Turn Reasoning." Before responding, the software can ask the AI: "I need you to draft a response to this customer. Now, look at your draft—does it violate our tone-of-voice guidelines? Does it mention a competitor? Now, rewrite it to be more concise."
